If it starts and stays running it's most likely the battery. However,With a voltmeter while the car is running measure the voltage at the battery terminals. If the voltage is about 13.5 volts to 14.5 and there is no battery light indicator on in your instrument panel, your alternator is most likely good and trying to charge the battery, If the battery light is on and you have lower than 13.0 volts at the battery most likely the alternator needs to be replaced. Turn the ignition off and measure the voltage again if it's 12 volts or less try charging the battery with a trickle charger (2 amps setting) for about 12 hours.if the problem persists replace the battery.
