Having problems with your Chevrolet Malibu ?

1998 pontiac GP makes thuunk when put in reverse

\015 3.8 v6 with automatic tranny. When ebging is running and idling, when you put it into reverse, it makes a "thunk" under the floorboard near the front of the console. I believ it could be a tranny mount?? Anyone else have any ideas what it could be?? BTW, i drove this car for 2 hours while test driving it and it did make that "thunk" The sales man warned me it would, but it didnt. When I went one last time to test drive it, it made the "thunking " noise.. if its a tranny mount, how could it be intermittant???\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 21-06-2021

Answers :

It is the rear motor mount. If there is a load on the motor it will make the noise and if there isnt any loud on it it wont make it. They should put a new one on it and maybe they could sell the car faster. There is three motor mounts on this car , one on the frount of the motor and one near the fan and another on the trans in back of the motor.
