Having problems with your Dodge Durango ?

I have a 2001 Dodge Durango 4x4. When I start to drive, It'll go from 1st to 2nd, and as soon as I hit 25 mph, it gets stuck in third gear and revs real high until I shift down to 2nd on the gear shifter. The engine light came on and when I hooked a scanner up to read the codes, it gave me a "third gear ratio malfunction". Does this mean a whole new tranny or just an electrical component? Please help.

I'd bet money on electrical component, as it sounds like your transmission has gone into what is called "Limp Mode". Allows you to get to repair shop and get it fixed. Don't drive it anymore than you need to, to get it to repair shop (transmission) or dealer for proper diagnosis, a.s.a.p. and save money in the long run. Likely a sensor or solenoid, or even a connection or software update required, but the less you drive it until fixed, the better. Be careful though, a lot of local garage's that claim to know all about them, are too inexperienced to diagnose it properly sometimes, and end up being a nightmare. Transmission shop & or dealer is your best bet, and don't be afraid to try both if close by, as a second opinion is never a bad thing.
