Hey I'm the one with the 01 dodge neon i went on and replaced the engine with the one i had for a spare and the engine runs but revs up and down repetitively on its own if i unplug the idle air control motor witch sounds horrible and is making a lot of noise when you just turn the key and when its running well if i unplug it and start it up it doesn't rev up on its own but i have to put a little pressure on the gas to keep it running i tried a diff one and it dose the same thing it was a used on

Hi I'm litoshop the problem of the engine idling up and down is not the torq converter it sound that it's sucking air from some where that's not the throttle, check for vacuum hose that are not connected or misplaced another thing to check would be the intake manifold gasket when the engine idles up and down is that the control module can not control the amount of air coming in to the combustion camber, the mass flow meter reads the amount of air and the idle speed control adjust the fuel flow since it's recieveing air from some where else the flow reading is not correct so the engine rpms would flusuate, I use carburator cleaner to detect vaccum leaks, with the engine on spay around the intake manifold and when you here the engine normalize thats the area you have to look into warning when you use carburator cleaner in heated area it's highly flamable you could also use water but it not as accurate good luck if this information has been useful please let us know thank you
