Having problems with your Dodge Ram ?

2003 dodge 2500 diesel cold start first start of the day (below 50) the truck will not start without either after it starts its fine have replaced batteries, relays, air heater ,serviced regulaly when try to start the volt meter steadly go down to about 8 volts have also load tested batteries also have cleaned and tightened the battery cables

Answers :

Check up the starter motor of the engine & electrical power supply harness of the starter motor. I suspect the starter motor.
I think you are expecting entirely too much from your vehicle. You say it is below 50 ... can this be 50 below (zero)?

\015\012The diesel trucks I operate hate to start in cold weather ... in fact they will not start even with either, below 30 period unless I have the engine heater plugged in (engine block heater). In fact I hate to start when it is cold, too. So, when the temperature dips, I plug the trucks in, and get extra coffee for myself. With the trucks warmed over night, there is no unnecessary wear and tear on MAN or MACHINE. Trucks start right up and my guys are on the road.

\015\012Just my thoughts based on my experience with my trucks ... yours are admittedly much newer and probably better maintained than mine.
