Its not the easiest job to do as it need to be done from underneath.
First things first, disconnect the battery!!
The front of the vehicle need to be raised and supported. Make sure axle stands are used as a ton of Mondeo on your head can really spoil your day.
The under tray now needs to be removed which is held on by Torx headed screws. Then a plastic pipe that runs across between the radiator and the engine held by two 10mm bolts and a sensor connector. The two rubber pipes each side of the plastic also need to be disconnected.
From there, there is two 10mm headed nuts that hold the bracket for the wiring to the starter motor and then the two long 13mm headed bolts that hold the starter motor in place. With these removed the starter can be lowered down from its mounting place. When its nearly out you can access and remove the wiring on the back of the starter releasing it from the vehicle.
Be careful of iron fillings when removing the starter as the main cause of failure is metal dust particles from the clutch and flywheel contaminating the starter. Note, this may sound a simple job but it is quite time consuming and fiddly due to the restricted access available
