If you mean the tappets then its easy ,best way is to remove the spark plugs ,then do the rule of 9 ,ie 4 cyl 8 valve so no1 down adjust no8 1+8=9
\015\012no2 down adjust no7 2+7= 9 and so on ,now as this is 1966 vehicle it will not have 4 valves per cylinder so just follow the rule ,so if its a 6 cyl then its rule 13 ,no1 down adjust 12 1+12=13 and so on ,yes i know its slower than other methods but for a weekend mechanic ?? ideal as you cannot go wrong .Hence this is why i said remove the plugs then turning engine over is easy with a socket and ratchet on the front pulley bolt ,if its a manual then just put in 2nd gear handbrake off and push backwards ,now tappet clearance ?? big question as i dont know -----i built ford kent engine and essex engines ,make sure that the wear under the tappet end is not to great as it affects the gap because as you appreciate a feeler gauge of 12th + wear could equal 18th ,so remove the rocker shaft and inspect before you start ,now if they are too bad then be carefull as if you grind them a bit you could go through the case hardening so if new not available then strip shaft ,regrind but re-heat treat by heating with oxy acyetlene till yellow on the end and drop in oil .originaly they were tuftrided treated with cyanide to a rockwell C of around 80 i think but i honestly do not remember ,any harder and they go brittle and snap .as for gap ?? ford?? they like to be noisey so i would hazard a guess and say about 12 inlet and 15 exhaust but if it uses too much petrol then open exhaust to 18 or even 20 ,Now dont forget that as you adjust the tappets make sure you observe the travel as the cam followers are also subject to wear ,they get a hollow in them so they dont open fully .Right hope you have enough information and the best of british with it
THE HANDIEST WAY TO ADJUST THE ROCKERS IS TURN THE ENGINE MANUALLY UNTIL THE ROCKER ON ONE CYLINDER IS GOIN DOWN THEN U CAN SET THE ONE BESIDE IT DO THE SAME ON EACH CYLINDER
