If you havent done a tune up go ahead and buy high qual. parts like motorcraft or the like. replace Cap, rotor ignition wires and plugs. I highly recommentd using IRIDIUM spark plugs. they will out perform any other plug (copper, platinum, etc) also make sure the the timing in your truck is spot on. check for vacuum hoses and leaks. if it has o2 sensors, replace them. they control pulse width for injector. (if equipped) get rid of unneeded weight, get an alignment and inflate tires no less than 38 psi. change fuel filter every 12k or 12 months miles. if it has a carburetor make sure u get it cleaned out ( taken appart and thoroughly cleaned) make sure to test your battery and it has NO LESS then 12.60 volts in the morning. keep your oil fresh and filter too.
If youve done some of these and think the others might not help, trust me, i am a hypermiler and ASE cert tech w 9 yrs experience. i have a small 95 nissan with 225k miles that is supposed to get 34 mpg highway, and it does 43.3mpgs. with all these little tips. never repaired. just lots of TLC and knowing tha EVERY BIT COUNTS. i also use top quality gas like chevron bp texaco shell or the like.
