Having problems with your Ford Ranger ?

Recently When I turn on the fan or AC in my 2002 Ford Ranger, I hear a noise that sounds like something loose. The higher I turn the fan the louder the noise. I can imagine it being a leaf or something caught in the fan. The noise sounds like its coming from near the motor under the passenger dash. What will I need to remove to get inside and see if something is caught in there? What other problem could it be? Thanks for any help
