1997 Sable Driver Seat Only Moves 2 Inches At A Time

\015 Taking out front seat of 1997 Sable. Took front bolts off, then pressed lever to move the seat forward. Didn't move. Tried it again a few minutes later, (the seat had been getting erratic the last few months the few times I tried to move it forward or back), and it moved 2 or 3 inches-nowhere near enough to make room to remove the rear nuts.\012\012You can't press the lever, let it move 2 inches, then press it again immediately-the seat simply will not move. If you wait 15 minutes or so between attempts, the seat will indeed move a couple of inches before it stops again.\012\012I did get the front seat off, but it took the whole afternoon to move the seat forward.\012\012Do I need a new seat motor, or could it be something else?\012\012Any help would be appreciated.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 12-08-2019

Could be the switch, but it sounds like the motor is going bad. However, I dont know if you tried to lubricating the tracs. Some of these seats are on ball bearings and some on nylon bushings, either way they need to be lubricated once in a great while. Have you tried to help the seat to move by pushing in the direction it is going to see if it speeds up. If so, the seat motor is going out or the tracks are binding up. I hope this helps.
