Having problems with your Ford Windstar ?
2004 FORD WINSTAR RAN OUT OF GAS, FILL TANK WITH 5 GALS OF GAS CAR WOULD NOT START. THERE IS NO ELETRIC GOING TO PUMP IS THERE A VAPOR OR ROLLOVER SWITCH THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS PROBLEM.
In the rear passengers side where the jack is you will find the roll over switch and it may need to be reset or it has lost it's ground to the body.Either way it is a good place to start.
The answer is yes to both questions, however you must turn the Key to the run position then off and do this a dozen times before the system primes. Listen for the fuel pump to come on when you turn the key on, if you don't hear the pump run for two seconds check the fuse otherwise turn it on and off a dozen times to get it to prime. Cranking the engine over will not prime the system, If after doing this and it still will not start you will have to replace the fuel filter, because when it ran out of fuel it sucked up all the junk in the bottom of the tank rust and so forth. If it still will not start after replacing the fuel filter you will have to drop the tank and replace the fuel sock on the pump. However if you ran it low it may have ruined the pump and yo will have to replace the pump and fuel sock both. Never run the car less than 1/4 tank of fuel doing so will burn out the fuel pump. The roll over valve would bot have activated if all you did is run out of gas. Thee is one exception, that is if it back fired. if that happened then it is possible that it caused the roll over valve to reset. And depending on if it's has Federal emissions or California emissions will determine where the roll over valve is located. Most of the time it's in the glove box, on some it is located behind a cover in the rear on the same side as the fuel filler valve.
