Having problems with your Honda Passport ?

Had my tcc solenoid replaced. the mechanic said that the transmission fluid is black and there is a burnt smell. what do I do. I am not sure if I got him right that the transmission fluid cannot be replaced because it will get a shock or something. He then noted that transmission overhaul is pending. how long do you think will my transmission last with this kind of problem and is there any other solution? thanks

Answers :

Transmission fluid is a hydraulic fluid that can withstand high temperatures and high pressures but has a lot of anti foaming and detergent additives mixed in. If the fluid change was neglected then the mechanic will not change it because he runs the risk of a simple tranny oil drop and fill becoming a blow tranny. After years of usage the fluid begins to break down and loose its cleaning properties which allows deposits to build up on the internal clutches and plates inside the transmission. Removing the old fluid and installing fresh, detergent dense fluid would basically clean out all the material deposits which in most cases is good, however this shock to the system would cause the tranny to start slipping, have internal pressure leaks and eventually not perform its job. Save for the tranny and remember this lesson for the future it sucks but it will stay with you.
