The thermostat is a ( thermal water circulation valve) Ok lets see. if do you want to find out if a thermostat is operating properly in you engine. remove the thermostat from the thermostat housing, following to that boil water in a recipient in home you stove, depending to de grades that you thermostat shoul open, the more commun is 180 degrees, when the water get that temperature.pour the thermostat in the hot water and see in it if the thermostat start to open. visualy you will notice that the stick in the spring side start contracting all way down. if this dont happend replace it
\015\012 goood luck and be carefull with the hot water
Most of the time when any car runs hot, it will be low on water, If that is not the case then the thermostat would be my second choice, then a close third would be the engine and radiator needs a good cleaning..Before I checked any of these I would check the hoses and the belts to be sure they are in good shape. Make sure your belts are not slipping..On you car, I am putting my money on the belts.
