Having problems with your Kia Sportage ?

99 kia sportage, backfiring, no power, rough idle.

\015 I have a 99 kia sportage, which is backfiring, and lost all power, and has horrible idle. A few weeks back it overheated, and leaked out nearly ALL the coolant from the system (separate issue obviously). I filled the coolant tank again, and was fine. Shortly after, I decided to put in a fuel injector cleaner, as it had a TAD rough idle, but full power and no backfiring. Within an hour of putting the treatment in, the car was in BAD shape. It literally has NO power at all now, revs extremely high trying to climb tiny hills, and backfires about every 1-2 seconds, at low and high acceleration. I was originally thinking bad fuel filter, as all the gunk from the injectors might have plugged it. Replaced it, which made it run 10% better for a day, but didn't fix the issue. I grabbed a set of plugs, as I thought possibly the overheat might have fouled a plug or 2, but haven't yet swapped them out. I know vacuum leaks are the main cause of these sort of issues, and I also noticed a bit of fluid leaking from the head, and a bit of coolant smell through the vents occasionally. At idle it doesn't backfire much, or at all, just under any kind of load. From the info I can gather, most folks seem to think a head gasket leak wouldn't be substantial enough to cause all these issues, even if it WERE on the way out, but thought I'd get some more opinions. Also, the backfiring seems to be coming from the front of the vehicle, as I can physically feel it under my feet while driving - and it's LOUD as hell! Plugs? Head gasket? Sensor? Exhaust manifold leak? Any help would be appreciated - thanks!\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 23-04-2018
