Having problems with your Kia Sportage LX ?

I have a 1999 Kia sportage EX. I was told by the dealer I needed to replace my catalytic converters. I was informed that there were two of them. I was told they were clogged and needed replacing. Is there a way to unclog them and if not how difficult is it to replace them myself?

Answers :

Unclogging a cat converter is not possible due to the small honey-comb catalyst membrane inside. Once the cats are clogged, they need to be replaced. Replacing your exhaust components will require a set of torches that will allow you to heat the bolts and also cut the exhaust from the rest of the system. Without having this valuable tool, you will not be able to repair this vehicle yourself. I realize this is an expensive repair and you can purchase these exhaust parts from any well supplied auto store, but removal of these components is where the trouble starts and assembly can be some what tactical.
