Having problems with your Mercedes-Benz SLK ?

1998 SLK 230 Hydraulic system worked fine but found leaks in the trunk. Had cylinders repaired, no more leaks. PROBLEM: trunk will no longer close on it's own. Trunk opens, top goes down, trunk stays open. I then have to turn off the car to release pressure to manually put trunk down. The red switch lights intermittingly beeps and blinks the whole time it's being driven.

The problem may be with the closing assist pump or the sensor on the trunk. Try first to remove the fuse of the pump in the fuse box at the trunk. It is usually the #9 fuse in most models. Check if the fuse is bad if not leave it out of the socket for a minute then put it back in to reset the system. See if it works.

To get the line removed use the fork of a 7mm wrench to get the hose out of the pump. The trunk line is labeled 'HD'. Make sure to pry it out in the direction of the hose in order for you not to break the nozzle.

It is for another model but it uses the same parts.

Hi

You have a broken spring in the lock mechanism. Manually grab the dogears of the lock and pull out while you operate the key. The dogears are the clamp looking things that close around the hasp of the lock.
