Having problems with your MG TD ?

I hooked a battery charger to the battery in my 1952 MGTD with the battery in position, with positive to positive. I know the positive is the ground but did not think. I now can not get the electrical to work. It seems as though there is no ground although the battery is correctly hooked up - positive to ground and negative as live. What could have happened? Did I polorize something? It did not blow any fuse. Help. thanks
