Get car scanned then an electrical and fuel system tuneup--concentrate onthe distributer and egr valve
2001 model sentras has issues with computer box. the box had foam inside of it that was a big issue. the glue they used to attach the foam to the box would eat up the internals of the computer and destoy it. the fumes from the glue ae toxic and destroy the computer in some cases. in your case i would start wit IAVL relern, which is a "idle air volume relearn" which has to be done at dealer. you can perfrom closed throttle position re-learn at home. simply turn your ignition to "ACC" position for 2 seconds and turn it "OFF" for 10 seconds. you will need to do that 4 times in a row to complete relearn of the throttle position. after that you should have the IAVL checked and adjusted, which is done with consult2 nissan scanner. i would start there.
have seen some 2001 sentras leaking coolant into the cylinders. head gasket problem. does the car run rough for first 15-30 seconds when you start it in the a.m.? Is the check engine light on?? if you have a leaking head gasket, it could be so severe that it floods the spark plug while running and that kills the spark and engine can die. let me know if you have that symptom. if not start with the :closed throttle position le-rearn, which is the one that you do with the key 2sec ON and 10sec OFF 4 times in a row and than have the IAVL done at dealer. The IAVL should not cost more that 1/2 hour of labor or about 50 bucks. If they ask for more than that, then they are ripping you off. the procedure takes not even a minute with the consult2.
