Hi Reggie, Remove the distributor cap, the rotor arm and the plastic cover from inside (if its still there). Loosen the lock nut and the securing nut from the insulator on the side of the distributor body and remove the cables connecting the coil and the condenser. Look inside and mounted onto the base plate are the points (contact breakers) which are removed by loosening the screw or screws (sometimes there is one and sometimes two). It is important to replace the points and condenser at the same time. Replace the condensor and connect the cable onto the insulator with the coil cable. Look at the points and observe the two parts. Between the two is another insulator. The cables (wires) from the coil and condenser connect through the body of the distributor via the insulator and join to the points on the outside of the points. Loosen the screw on the back of the points and making sure there is no short circuit between the two parts, tighten the cable. Before fitting the replacement points add a tiny amount of grease to the fibre rubbing block, then fit and tighten the securing screw(s) until the points are firm but the gap can be adjusted. Look under the distributor and loosen the locking nut where it mounts into the engine block, (do not under any circumstances remove the distributor from the engine block) Rotate the body of the distributor until the fibre rubbing block touches the highest part of the cam of the distributor and adjust the gap to 0.45mm and lock the screws. Fit the rotor arm to the top of the distributor cam and then rotate the engine until The pulley aligns with the 4 degree mark BTDC with the pointer on the front timing cover. Set the distributor by rotating the body so the points are closed but exactly at the point of opening. Lock the body of the distributer, fit the plastic internal cover, the rotor arm and the cap. Get inside crank up and start the engine. Final adjustments will be more accurate if final settings are carried out with a strobe timing light. The timing is set at 4 degrees BTDC at 700 RPM with the vacuum hose disconnected from the distributer and blocked. Let me know how you get on. Regards John
Remove them and install exactly as you removed the old ones, set gap to spec from tune up booklet.
