Hello nichole hump: My name is Roger and I will answer your question. The mechanic or repair shop air bound by a federal law. Basically the law says if they remove an emission part they have to replace it with an emission part. To remove the catalytic converters and leave them off is a federal offense. Punishable by fine of $5000.00 to $10,000.00 with possible jail time. This makes the removal of the exhaust component not a viable repair but not worth the cost.
