Good luck.
This is a flex plate. They are very thin, and tend to break quite easily if not properly torqued, or if you do any heavy puulling or hauling type of stuff. Other than that... the transmission could be slipping, and then snatching on the flywheel when it finally catches. But you would notice something like that. Other possible cause would be a problem with the torque converter.. Possible, but not very likely unless you feel shuddering while cruising at a steady speed.\015\012---------\015\012to remove the flywheel .Separate the engine/transmission; either pull the engine or transmission, whichever is easier for you. If it's an automatic, disconnect the torque converter from the flywheel. You can get to the bolts through the dust cover. After the engine/transmission are separated, if it's a standard, remove the pressure plate/clutch disk.
pull the bolts that hold the flywheel and it should fall off in your hand.
\015\012---------\015\012to install new . Remove either the engine or transmission, remove the pressure plate from the existing flywheel and examine both the pressure plate and clutch plate, unbolt the flywheel from the crankshaft and remove it. If there are many miles on the clutch, don't even TRY to reuse it. Examine/replace the glan nut/pilot bushing as necessary and lubricate according to specifications.
Bolt the NEW flywheel onto the crankshaft.
Using a pilot shaft, install the clutch plate/pressure plate assembly. Make sure the shaft can be removed easily and that the clutch plate is centered exactly on the pilot shaft.
Install the engine or transmission.
