Are there any water pump bolts behind the timing belt cover, on a 1999 vw Jetta 2.0 4cyl engine with air cond. and do i have to take the top and bottom covers all the way off the engine. Thanks for the help.
Yes,but only if you want to remove the complete water pump including the thermostat housing. If you only want to replace the water pump(front section only) the part that leaks water from the small hole in the housing behind the pulley you only have to remove the 10mm bolts running in a circle!!
I believe the water pump is driven by the timing belt so it must be removed prior to installation if you pull the belt replace it and the tensioner assembly they sell a complete kit
